About Us

RD 4 RDW: Responsible Development for Rowland Heights, Diamond Bar, and Walnut (also known as Royal Vista Open Space Nonprofit) is a grassroots community movement advocating for responsible and sustainable progress.

A speculation real estate development, LLC Project Dimensions, has purchased portions of the Royal Vista Golf Course for $11 million in April 2021, and has submitted plans to the LA County Regional Planning Commission for 360 units including duplexes and triplexes, currently zoned as open space. The remaining 65 acres of the golf course have been purchased by Sunjoint, application in preliminary stages proposing over 1,500 units, permanently altering the character of Rowland Heights and surrounding communities.

We organized to ensure the 156 acres remains as open space, the last sizable area in Rowland Heights, serving our community as a recreational facility and preserving the wildlife that resides in the suburban habitat, only 1.2 miles from the Significant Ecological Area of Puente Hills. We want to see the land protected from dense residential development, and increased traffic for the benefit of residents, flora & fauna, nearby communities and future generations.

We are citizens united for sustainable progress and quiet enjoyment of life.

Once it is gone, it is gone forever.

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENTS

360 UNITS – Developer: RV DEV LLC

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Why Save Our Open Space?

Development will increase traffic, noise, crime, pollution, and overuse area resources, including water. This surge in traffic will lead to an increase in daily vehicle travel, putting a significant strain on our road infrastructure and exacerbating air quality concerns. Studies show that higher traffic volumes are linked to an increase in noise levels, affecting the tranquility of our community.

According to the LA County Fire Department, communities need open spaces to serve as a firebreak and evacuation point. The lakes on Royal Vista are crucial sources of water for air tankers that combat our increasingly frequent fires due to the ongoing drought. These open spaces play a critical role in safeguarding our homes and lives during emergencies.

4+ years of construction noise & the massive earth-moving operation, equivalent to relocating over 1,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools of earth, will result in fugitive dust emissions. This can escalate airborne fungal spore levels, significantly increasing the risk of Valley Fever, especially for individuals with compromised immune systems, respiratory conditions, or heart conditions.

Royal Vista is the last sizable green space in our community. Its preservation is essential for protecting the habitat and corridor to the hills only 1.2 miles away, connecting Puente Hills Significant Ecological Area (SEA) and Chino Hills State Park, according to experts from the Watershed Conservation Authority. Without this open space, the delicate balance of our local ecosystems faces a dire threat, endangering several species.

The proposed development will contribute to the climate crisis. The construction of multi-level dense housing and extensive road paving will dramatically reduce ground permeability for rainwater. This will further deplete our water table and exacerbate water scarcity issues.

Preserving Royal Vista is not only crucial for the well-being of our community but also for safeguarding our environment, wildlife, and long-term sustainability. It is a testament to our commitment to maintaining a high quality of life and preserving our natural heritage for future generations.
